Last weekend, the Twitter account below, which scours the Xbox database for codenames and other product information, revealed that a product called “Cardinal” had been added to the Xbox database. However, there’s no guarantee that Age of Empires 4 will eventually launch on Xbox consoles if it’s related to the strategy game Cardinal Codename Relic in the first place. The game may only undergo internal testing at the developer, and may not be intended for public release on Xbox One/Xbox Series consoles.

If Age of Empires 4 makes the leap from PC to Xbox consoles, it won’t be the first Xbox-published, PC-exclusive game to do so. Last year in 2021, Asobo’s Microsoft Flight Simulator arrived for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, but not Xbox One. It may be the case that two new-gen consoles see an Age of Empires 4 release, but the last-gen Xbox One is sadly the case.

If you’re unfamiliar with Age of Empires 4, it’s the latest in a very long line of tactical strategy games that always launch exclusively for the PC console. The new game is out for PC around the world by October 2021, and for what we’ve built for Relic’s new entry in the venerable strategy franchise, you can check out our full Age of Empires 4 review for more.
