The Amazon Fresh grocery store will anchor the refreshment of a sprawling shopping plaza along heavily-travelled Aurora Avenue North in North Seattle.
Near the corner of North 130th Street in the Bitter Lake area of Seattle, 13025 Aurora Ave. There is signage on the store still under construction at N. Amazon told GeekWire on Wednesday that it has yet to confirm an opening date, but it is currently recruiting for the location.
The tech giant has 18 new stores open so far, including two relatively new locations in the Seattle area. One store opened in the Factoria area of Bellevue, Wash., in June and another in the Central District of Seattle in August.
Amazon Fresh stores are part of Amazon’s rapidly growing brick-and-mortar grocery expansion nationwide, following its $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods in 2017 as it tries to take a bigger bite. $750 billion American Grocery Industry. According to real estate firm Kidder Matthews, Amazon is planning a new store south of Seattle in 1928 S. The company didn’t share any additional information, including whether the store will feature the cashierless “Just Walk Out” technology that debuted in Amazon Go convenience stores and has spread to some new locations. The technology, which enables shoppers to grab items and leave the store without standing in the checkout line, is being used in new Bellevue stores, but not in the Central District location.
Amazon is also bringing Just Walk Out to two Whole Foods stores starting next year and the technology will be used at four food and beverage stores inside the new Climate Pledge Arena, where the Seattle Krakens will play their first home NHL game next week.
Amazon currently has new locations in California, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C. and said Wednesday that two new stores were confirmed for New Jersey, three in Illinois and three more in California.
In other brick-and-mortar grocery news, Costco is also reportedly want to open a location A little north of Amazon near North 135th Street in an old Sam’s Club location, along Aurora Avenue North. The big box chain has another Seattle location in SoDo.
