Amazon is now offering one year of Deliveroo Plus with its Prime subscription in the UK. Amazon Prime customers will be able to access the Silver tier of Deliveroo Plus for free, enabling free delivery on orders over £25. Deliveroo typically charges £3.49 per month for Deliveroo Plus, making it a savings of over £40 per year.

Deliveroo Plus includes unlimited free delivery of food from various participating restaurants. However, you will either need to eat a lot or order two or more people to actually take advantage of the service. You must spend at least £25 or more per order to take advantage of free delivery.

The partnership comes more than two years after Amazon’s investment in UK-based food delivery company Deliveroo. Amazon led a $575 million funding round in Deliveroo, which used the investment to expand its engineering team and delivery reach. The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) had some initial reservations about the deal but corrected it last year, just as the pandemic was affecting the industry.

Before investing in Deliveroo, Amazon briefly participated in the restaurant delivery wars in the UK. Amazon launched its restaurant delivery service in London in 2015, but it failed to compete with similar services such as Deliveroo and UberEats. Two years later, the Amazon restaurant was quietly closed.

Amazon has previously included similar perks with its Prime subscription, including one year of Nintendo’s Switch Online service. If you have Amazon Prime and are interested in claiming a year of free Deliveroo Plus, you can link your accounts here Amazon’s site here.
