The creative director of Apex Legends developer Respawn’s unannounced single player game has left the studio.
VGC noted that Mohamed Alawi updated his LinkedIn profile to read “After 10 years at Respawn and it was time to leave it to ship the most amazing games of my career. Emotions after people say goodbye.” A whole series of episodes hit me, which had a huge impact on my career.”
Moving to the career section of Alawi’s profile, he was listed as “Creative Director on a brand new singleplayer adventure from Respawn Entertainment” and held the role from March 2021. Prior to this, Alvi worked as Narrative Design Director. Apex Legends has trained since November 2020, and even notes that he replaces him when he exits the game.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard mention of an unannounced single player game in development at Respawn. Last year in July 2021, Alawi himself revealed on Twitter that the LA-based studio was working on a “brand new single player adventure”, with himself as creative director for said project.
Elsewhere, however, Respawn revealed that it was developing a “brand new IP” at the start of the year in April 2021. Job listings at the studio hinted further at the new IP, which will exist outside the established worlds of Titanfall, Apex Legends and Star. Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but we don’t know if this new IP is the same single-player project that Alvi was pursuing.
