Music streaming service Apple Music may be coming to PS5.

According to a post on the music service’s subreddit, a user was issued a prompt to download the streaming service after creating a new account on their PS5. When they went to connect to Spotify, the Music section showed Apple Music as an optional download.

When they tried to download the service, however, they got an error message that said “This app is only playable on PS4.” as indicated by eurogamer, this is the standard message received when an app is missing from new-gen consoles, as many of the PS5’s media apps run through backwards compatibility with the PS4 version. However, older consoles never offered direct support for Apple Music.

Eurogamer reports that Sony is only testing the service for now, as it eventually disappeared and appears to be only available in certain regions. Apple Music users seem excited at the prospect, though — one Reddit comment said users “have been waiting for Apple Music on PlayStation for a long time,” while another expects the service to stop while they’re playing games. Will work in background.

The PS5 is already compatible with a whole bunch of streaming apps. Most of them are visual, either for TV or online services such as Twitch or YouTube, but Spotify’s existence as a working app suggests that there is room for more music services to be introduced in the future. With the Apple Showcase set for next week, an announcement on that front could be imminent.
