Apex Legends

Apex Legends

a legend in the making

reasons to buy
+Fun, Fluid Gameplay+simple ping system+stellar lineup of personalities
reason to escape
Some weapons need to be refined Battle Pass Earthly

Apex Legends is one of several contenders for the battle royal crown. Developed by Respawn Entertainment and set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends is a squad-based battle royale shooter where teams of three fight against 57 other players to try to collect loot and be the last person (or squad) standing.

However, unlike Fortnite and PUBG, Apex Legends takes players into a square, each represented by a unique character (imagine Fortnite mixed in with Overwatch and you’ll be on the right track.)

Apex Legends is the perfect battle royale game for those who enjoy the premise of the genre but don’t get on board with the building of Fortnite or the competition of PUBG – and it’s free. Plus, the different classes, abilities, and limited-time events make for a more dynamic experience overall.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is one of the recent additions to the epic Assassin’s Creed RPG franchise. The Odyssey is set during the Peloponnesian War and sees you step into the sandals of Alexio or Cassandra as they attempt to uncover the truth about their history while navigating the turbulent world of Ancient Greece as a mercenary. Huh.

While Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the most recent addition to the series, we still think Odyssey is the best Assassin on Xbox One and one of the best Xbox One games out there.

Odyssey is a graphically stunning Xbox One game that will transport you to the heart of ancient Greece, easily securing a spot in our collection of the best Xbox One games. Just make sure you have time to play it as there is over 100 hours of content here to enjoy.

battlefield 1

For those who want a break from CoD

reasons to buy
+Historic setting rejuvenates the series+Fantastic single-player experience+relentless fight
reason to escape
lack of stealth elements

Not a Call of Duty fan? Then Battlefield 1 might be a good option. The first-person shooter takes players back in time to World War I and in doing so completely rejuvenates the once stable franchise.

Battlefield 1’s historic setting helps it stand apart from the rest of the modern military shooters on the market, with all-new weapons, vehicles, and level designs that feel fresh and capture the chaos and brutality of war.

The game offers a poignant and entertaining single-player campaign that sets a new standard for first-person shooters. Divided into six sections, each following a different character and frontline location, the campaign never feels dull or repetitive.

The single-player campaign also feeds neatly into Battlefield 1’s multiplayer mode, which benefits from the familiarity as well as the much-needed breath of life that the change in setting gives.

Graphically impressive, captivating and at times touching, Battlefield 1 is a return to form for the series and one of the best Xbox One games out there. We hope that the upcoming Battlefield 2042 will make its way to this list when it releases in November.

call of Duty Modern Warfare

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)

stay cold

reasons to buy
+More strategy and thought needed+change in tone and appearance+Multiple multiplayer modes
reason to escape
mechanics formula largely unchangedHistory rewrites in some places

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) is like a reset for the bestselling FPS franchise – removing the frills of zombies, jetpacks, double-jumps and futuristic gadgetry from what military engagement really looks like in the 21st century.

The name is no coincidence, either; 2007’s Modern Warfare was a landmark entry in the Call of Duty series, and Activision is looking to recreate what made the game of the same name so successful.

Modern Warfare is about the grim realities of this time of war, with the ‘modern’ of the title ‘Modern Warfare’ referring to the gear, weapons and gadgetry used today in the Middle East and Russia, not the far-flung Science fiction fantasies in the realms of.

While Modern Warfare has some glaring issues with regards to its campaign, it’s still the best setting the series has seen yet — with tighter shooting and more multiplayer modes than you can shake a stick at.

Call of Duty: Warzone

Call of Duty: Warzone is a smashing battle royale game

reasons to buy
+huge, interesting map+Tight, Responsive Gunplay+tense gulag encounter+Contracts offer a new way to play

unmatched weaponKillstreaks can be overcome

Call of Duty: Warzone is now a standalone battle royale – and a great one at that. Initially released as an add-on to Modern Warfare (2019), Warzone took on a life of its own, giving Fortnite and PUBG a run for their money.

Warzone’s shooting is satisfying, its map is rewarding to explore, and it offers more than enough interesting concepts like the Gulag and Contracts to make each match feel completely unique wherever you land.

Control

reasons to buy
+amazing particle effect+inspired art direction+Kurkure Gunplay

pretty slow startsome structural compromise

2019’s Kala Ghoda, Remedy Entertainments Control is a different kind of action-adventure.

Control sees you step into the shoes of Jesse Faden, the latest director of the secretive Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) – a government agency that researches, and ultimately aims to control, paranormal activity. But Jesse’s new role has some issues that aren’t exactly stated in the job description, including the rebellion of a force known only as Hiss.

The affinity with which Remedy has introduced many of the toughest genres in both film and control games is still true…
