After several delays, Ubisoft has finally set a launch date for its reboot of city-building RTS The Settlers. The Settlers will release on March 17th, and if you can’t wait that long there’s a chance you can take part in the closed beta for a few days next week.
After seven Settlers games (and several spinoffs) between 1994 and 2010, the RTS series had a rough decade. The eighth game in the series was canceled in 2014 after a closed beta proved disappointing, and Ubisoft eventually announced a reboot with a planned launch date for 2019. This was then delayed until 2020 before being postponed once again. Finally, it looks like The Settlers will see the light of day once again.
When The Settlers marches in (hopefully this time for sure) it features skirmish and attack modes, as well as a story, a campaign mode with characters and allies, and many different biomes to explore and build. will be involved.
This month’s closed beta, however, will cover skirmish mode with only two maps for 1v1 or 2v2 matches against other players or AI-controlled factions. You can do this register here Chance to enter closed beta running from 20-24 January. If you get into the closed beta, it will be available on both Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store.
I took an early look at The Settlers beta build last week, and when it reboots it doesn’t feel like a reinvention of the series. you can read my impressions here,
