The difference in probability between selling a startup and going public is an order of magnitude. Your company is ten times more likely to be acquired than your CEO is to ring the first bell on the NYSE.

And yet, the startup culture encourages participants to believe they are on the path to an IPO, regardless of their sector, says Yair Snir, vice president and managing director of Dell Technologies Capital.
