In a nutshell: Doom has become a popular test to determine if any hardware or software has been hacked, but can Doom run Doom? In 2015, we introduced the Doom mod, which allows you to play Doom inside Doom. YouTuber kgsws’ latest effort does not use a mod to achieve this, but rather an exploit found in Doom II.

We have seen everything from McDonald’s self-service kiosks as well as Lego parts to Smart lamps Ikea as well as smart refrigerators get treatment. This is another impressive interpretation in the same vein.

The user found a way to get chocolate doom (port of the Doom source code) running inside Doom II using an exploit. Kgsws notes that both games run independently of each other and therefore use twice as much memory as usual. And this is not just a visual trick – pressing F12 allows kgsws to control the instance in the game.

However, it doesn’t end there, as the YouTuber was even able to load other games into Doom, such as Heretic.

Those interested in tinkering with the exploit can head to Github and take the necessary files. You will also need a copy of Doom II for DOS.
