Denis Villeneuve talks about his plans for Dune 2.
“If there’s such a thing as Dune: Part Two, I’d say it’s going to be a crazy playground for me,” Villeneuve said Diversity, explaining that he can “have fun with the cinema” in the sequel because he won’t have to spend time setting up the world again.
“It’s going to be like pure cinematic bliss for the second part,” he said. “I don’t want to speak for everyone on the team, but I will say that we really instilled a sense of family on this film and for everyone to be back together again, it would be heaven.”
Villeneuve recently told Total Film that he’s feeling good about Dune’s chances of getting a sequel: “So the first thing was to prove that a beautiful, popular movie can exist, and I think That I’ve proved it – Warner Bros. and everyone great, they’re 100 percent behind the project. They think that not having Dune: Part Two will require a really bad result at the box office, because they’re going to get away from the movie. I love it. He’s proud of the film, so he wants the film to go ahead. And he’s still done half of it. So, you know, I’m very optimistic.”
Diversity Also note that Dune’s simultaneous release on HBO Max means that a smaller box office result amid the pandemic shouldn’t stand in the way of a sequel’s potential — and, according to the report, theaters turnout to watch HBO Max. is in line with the figures. , which means that successful performances at the box office have translated into higher viewership on the streamer, and vice versa.
The film debuted at the Venice Film Festival to mostly positive reviews, holding 87% on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing. Our own five-star review described the film as “jaw-dropping in its inventiveness and courage”.
