Let’s Address the 1984 Adaptation by David Lynch

David Lynch directed an adaptation of Dune, released in 1984. It starred Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atreides.

Although it may eventually achieve cult status, it was a box office and critical flop at the time of release.

Villeneuve is not a remake of Dune Lynch’s Revision, which promises to draw a close connection to its source material—Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name.

“When I saw Lynch’s adaptation, I was impressed,” Villeneuve said in 2017, “But it wasn’t what I dreamed of, so I’m trying to adapt my dreams. I’m going back to the book, and going to the images I read from it.”
