In case you were too busy watching the two-and-a-half-hour science-fiction epic, which some have described as “”.boring“And unfinished (it covers only half of its two-part story), don’t worry. HBO Max has been dropped, but the sci-fi spectacle is coming to digital platforms in December and will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K in January. Or you’ll get another chance to see it on the biggest screen, as it returns to Imax theaters next week.

Is Dune Coming to HBO Max?
Dune hits HBO Max the same day it hits theaters: October 21. However, with all HBO Max simultaneous releases, also known as day-and-date releases, it was only available for one month. That month is now over — but it will return sometime next year, once the home entertainment release is out.

Where can I watch Dune now that it’s not on HBO Max?
If you want to see Dune on the big screen, it’s returning to IMAX screens on December 3.
If you’d prefer a smaller screen in the comfort of your home, it’s available on participating digital platforms — most likely Apple TV Plus, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play and YouTube Movies — as well. December 3, for $30. You can also rent it for $25.
Since then January 11, it will be available on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD for $50, $40 and $35, respectively. The 4K UHD Combo Pack includes tons of behind-the-scenes exclusives.
How much does HBO Max cost?

You must have heard of Paul Atreides. Who is he really?
Timothée Chalamet stars as young anti-hero Paul Atreides, the main character of Dune.
Here is a small part of his backstory.
Paul, a “brilliant and talented young man” grows up in an aristocratic family on the planet Caladon. One day, his father – Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) – accepts a gig overseeing the desert planet Arakis, otherwise known as Dune. It is the “most dangerous planet in the universe”. This is when Paul’s life takes a wild turn.
When the elder Atreides clan moves into their new home, Paul learns of his “great fortune” and what he must do to “ensure the future of his family and that of his people”.
It all has something to do with a particular “precious resource” for the planet. There has been a battle to achieve this.
What’s with the spices?
The planet Arakis is home to the most valuable substance in the universe. This is called masala, or adulteration.
What does the spice do? It is a powerful medicine that can prolong human life and give people the power to control the super-human mind. This enables astronauts to “turn space” and travel faster than the speed of light.
Who plays Zendaya?
Let’s touch on the other characters.
- Zendaya basically plays Paul’s love interest, a mysterious woman with bright blue eyes named Chani. She lives on the planet Arrakis, which is part of the native Freeman tribes.
- Oscar Isaac plays Paul’s father, Duke Leto Atreides. Rebecca Ferguson plays his mother Lady Jessica.
- Gurney Halleck and Duncan Idaho are played by Josh Brolin and Jason Momoa, the two warriors who coach Paul in combat.
- Stillgar, the leader of the Freemen, is played by Javier Bardem.
- Stellan Skarsgrd plays Baron Vladimir, the leader of the House of Arrakis, Harkonnen. They are in conflict with the Atreides family.
- Charlotte Rampling plays the revered mother of an order of women called the Bene Gesserit. They can read and control the mind.

Let’s Address the 1984 Adaptation by David Lynch
David Lynch directed an adaptation of Dune, released in 1984. It starred Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atreides.
Although it may eventually achieve cult status, it was a box office and critical flop at the time of release.
Villeneuve is not a remake of Dune Lynch’s Revision, which promises to draw a close connection to its source material—Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name.
