It’s literally Mario time all the time thanks to a brand tie-up that few might have expected. Luxury watch maker Tag Heuer has announced that Tag Heuer Connected X Super Mario Limited Edition Smartwatches are bringing the image and style of a mustache plumber to one of the best (and most expensive) wearables you can buy.
Perhaps more surprising than the brand partnership is how seriously the two have taken it. It’s not a half-hearted partnership, as both Tag Heuer and Nintendo put Mario front and center, with character influences running throughout the smartwatch, from the color scheme of the straps and watch face to the design of the bezel. Crown.
The most interesting thing is that Mario is tied to your daily activity. When you reach key points towards your daily activity goal, various animations play, including Mario collecting a super mushroom and a super star, resulting in power-ups, and eventually climbing that goal pole. Super Mario will remember the most from the game when you reach 100. % of your daily target.
Add in animated Mario playing tennis, golf, or other sports, and you get a motivational system that’s a lot more fun than you’d expect on a smartwatch like this one. There are a total of four custom watch dials to choose from, all of which are currently exclusive to this edition, and integrate Mario into familiar Tag Heuer watch faces. For example, there are two versions of the Heuer 02 face, which use colors taken from Mario’s hat or from his overalls.
The case and strap of the smartwatch have also been given a Mario makeover. You have the option of a red and black leather strap or a red perforated rubber strap, each paired with a steel clasp featuring Mario’s M logo. The lacquered bezel has a subtle red gradient finish, and features a mushroom, pipe, and star icon at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. Lacquer pushers also have a red stripe, and Mario’s M logo in the crown. The case back bears the words, “Tag Heuer X Super Mario Limited Edition,” and the whole thing is presented in a pretty red travel case.
Technically the smartwatch has not changed from the other models in the current collection. It has a 45mm case made of stainless steel, is water-resistant to 5 ATM, has a heart rate monitor on the back, and runs Google’s Wear OS software. Only 2,000 Tag Heuer X Super Mario Limited Edition smartwatches will be made, and are priced at $2,150, or 1,800 British pounds. The tag will be available from July 15 on Heuer’s online store and select boutique retail stores.
