The first official Space Jam 2 trailer was released on YouTube and social media on April 3. It offered curious viewers a fair look at the story, which characters from Looney Tunes will join LeBron James on screen, and what other Warner Bros. properties are appearing in the film.
You can watch that trailer below:
Space Jam: A New Legacy Plot: What is the story about?
Space Jam: A New Legacy follows LeBron’s journey to save his youngest son, Dom (Cedric Joe), when the latter is trapped in a virtual world by an evil AI program (Don Cheadle). Despite the pair reuniting, LeBron is told by Cheadle’s AI character that he should lead the Tune Squad – which includes characters such as Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny and Daffy Duck – the AI’s digital basketball champions, who are masquerading as goons. Known in, but before victory. The pair may make a comeback in the real world.
The hooligans are digitized versions of professional basketball players, so LeBron and the Tunes Squad will have their work cut out for them. If the first film is anything to go by, however, LeBron and his friends are bound to find some humorous ways to get one on their opponents, saving Dom and allowing the James family to return home.

The Lola Bunny is going through a major character change for A New Legacy. Director Malcolm Dee Lee saw the original film for the first time in 2019, and got carried away with the overly sensual nature of Bugs’ love interest.
talking to Entertainment Weekly, Lee said: “Lola was very sexist, like Betty Boop mingled with Jessica Rabbit. Lola wasn’t politically correct…. it’s a children’s movie, why is she in a crop top? It just felt unnecessary , but at the same time it has a long history in cartoons.”
To better reflect more contemporary approaches to female character designs, Lee revealed that Lola’s new look was “about making sure she had the proper length on her shorts and was feminine without objectification, but Gave him a real voice”.
While Lola has had a makeover, there is a looney tune that has been completely removed from Space Jam 2. According to time limitPepe Le Pew, the group’s French rookie, was dropped from the sequel after Lee joined the project. A scene involving the character was filmed before Lee’s arrival, but in the wake of Criticism that cartoon about consent has received, the sequence was dropped from the final cut of the film.
Space Jam: A New Legacy Cameo: Which Warner Bros. Properties Will Appear?
The official trailer for Space Jam: A New Legacy was not well received by every Space Jam or movie fan upon its release. Some viewers considered the large amount of iconography of Warner’s other films an exception, and criticized the studio for shoehorning various series into Space Jam 2 when they had no business there. It’s also a particularly controversial issue when you consider that mature films, such as A Clockwork Orange, will feature in an upcoming film aimed at children.
Either way, Warner Bros. won’t be removing those other properties so late in development. If you’re curious about which Warner Bros. IPs will appear in some capacity, check out the list below, as confirmed by the trailer:
- A Clockwork Orange
- game of Thrones
- iron giant
- king kong
- math question
- mad max fury road
- Scooby Doo
- Thunder Cats
- the Wizard of Oz
- amazing lady
- Yogi Bear
Spoilers carry on from this point on for the end of Space Jam.
While those references aren’t overly needed, there are a few cameo appearances we’ve been making. Really Putting out for this hasn’t been discussed yet. For one, it would be really cool to show off Space Jam hero Michael Jordan.
We suspected he wouldn’t, given that he didn’t want to return to the 1990s for a planned sequel to Space Jam. Now, however, we have confirmation that he Will Showing up in some capacity.
Speaking to Access Hollywood about Space Jam 2 (skip to the 9:58 mark in the video below), Don Cheadle revealed that Michael Jordan was “in the movie,” but not in the way that fans were calling him. would expect to be. Would that be a hologram of sorts? Or could he appear in a flashback sequence featuring Bugs, Lola, and the rest of Looney Tunes? We’ll have to wait to find out.
Also how about the return of Jordan, Bill Murray and Wayne Knight turning up for a scene or two? Murray appeared in some Space Jam scenes as one of Jordan’s friends, while Knight was cast as Stan Podolak, Jordan’s publicist and assistant. Neither has been confirmed for A New Legacy yet, but it would be nice to see the gap between these two films bridge.
Finally, it will be interesting to see Monsters appear in the sequel. The group, originally known as the Nerdlux, stole the basketball abilities of many real-life stars of the time, including Charles Barkley, transforming themselves into superpowered monsters and playing Jordan during their basketball performances. And to pick up Looney Tunes.
The Monsters are defeated, but after some wise words from Jordan, they turn on their former boss before handing their basketball talents back to the players they stole them from. Returning to their Nerdluck personas, the group is recruited by Looney Tunes before the film ends.
It doesn’t look like Nerdlux will appear in Space Jam 2, judging by the official trailer. However, Warner Bros. may have cut him from the trailer so that…
