Suicide Squad is preparing to launch another life-or-death mission in Warner Bros.’s DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
James Gunn’s R-rated supervillain film hits theaters and on HBO Max in less than two months and, if its first trailer is anything to go by, it may just be the best superhero flick Warner Bros. has made.
With its launch, we have put together every detail of Suicide Squad for your convenience. We’re good like that – unlike the various superpowered criminals in The Suicide Squad’s lineup.

Suicide Squad release date: August 6, 2021
Suicide Squad will be released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max on Friday, August 6. However, this date only applies to US viewers, as viewers in some regions will be able to watch it earlier.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that Suicide Squad will only be available on HBO Max for 31 days — and only subscribers with the ad-free $14.99 monthly tier will be able to stream it. It will leave the service after September 6th, so if you choose to watch it at home instead of a big screen, make sure you do so within a month of launch.
UK movie fans will be able to watch it in theaters a week before Friday, 30 July as HBO Max is not currently available on British shores.
Suicide Squad trailer: First look at James Gunn’s DC film
The first trailer for James Gunn’s Suicide Squad arrived on March 26—and it was well worth the wait.
In Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (and feeling like) an R-rated version of another James Gunn film series, The Suicide Squad will be full of foul play, violence, sexual references, and character death (more on these later).
It’s Warner Bros.’s most mature superhero film to date and if the online reaction to the trailer is to be believed, audiences are in for more of these kinds of adult-skewed DCEU projects.

Suicide Squad Cast: Who’s Playing Who?
We’re not messing around when we say that the Suicide Squad cast is totally stacked. There are a lot of big names in this film, and we’re hoping they get the screen time they need to showcase their undoubted talents:
- Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn
- Idris Elba as Bloodsport
- John Cena as Peacemaker
- Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg
- Sylvester Stallone as King Shark (voice; Steve Edge portrayed King Shark on screen)
- Jay Courtney as Captain Boomerang
- Peter Capaldi as The Theorist
- Michael Rooker as Sawant
- Amanda Waller as Viola Davis
- Nathan Fillion as TDK
- David Dustmalchian as Polka-Dot Mann
- Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2
- Alice Braga as Sol Soria
- Pete Davidson as Blackguard
- Sean Gunn as Weasley
- Flula Borg as Spear
- Mongal as Mileing Ng
- Taika Waititi as Starro Star
Waititi is also cast in another undisclosed role, while Edge will also portray Belle Rave Warden John Economicons with other actors in supporting roles.
These include Joaquín Coccio as General Mateo Suárez, Juan Diego Boto as Corto Maltese dictator Silvio Luna, Storm Reid as Bloodsport’s daughter Tyla, Jennifer Holland as Waller’s assistant Emilia Harcourt, and Doctor Fitzgibbon as Suicide. The squad includes comic writer John Ostrander.
One actor we won’t see in The Suicide Squad is Dave Bautista. The Guardians of the Galaxy star was eager to join Gunn for the DCEU film, but Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead (per entertainment weeklyy) He had to undergo joining.
Suicide Squad Sequel: Is This a Follow-up to 2016’s Suicide Squad?
this is complex. Back in April 2019, Suicide Squad creator Peter Safran revealed comicbook.com That The Suicide Squad was not a continuation of the 2016 film.
fast forward to a October 2020 Empire Peace, however, and Gunn revealed that The Suicide Squad is “its own thing”—not quite a sequel, but not quite a reboot.
The return of Robbie, Courtney, Kinnaman and Davis (in their respective roles) for The Suicide Squad made the water worse. If this quartet is reprising their characters from David Ayer’s 2016 flick, shouldn’t Gunn’s film be labeled a sequel?
In that regard, it should be — but, as Gunn explained via Twitter, you don’t have to watch 2016’s Suicide Squad to follow the events of Suicide Squad, so it may not be a direct sequel. .
No, you’ll be fine. https://t.co/D7agq9xv2QJanuary 27, 2021
Is Suicide Squad a follow-up to 2016’s Suicide Squad? We say ‘technically not’, but it’s easy to see why there is so much confusion about this fact.
Suicide Squad Plot: What’s It About?
Given the information above, one thing we don’t expect to see (or hear) is a callback to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. If we didn’t have to watch that flick to understand The Suicide Squad, we don’t think there would be many direct references to the 2016 installment.
With that said, here’s the official synopsis of The Suicide Squad (according to the movie) official website🙂
“Welcome to Hell – aka Belle Rave, the prison with the highest death rate in America. Where the worst super-villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out – even super – also join the secret, super-shady Task Force X.
“Do or die today’s work? Gather a collection of cons… then arm them with heavy weapons and drop them (literally) on the remote enemy-infested island of Corto the Maltese. Trekking into the woods with militant opponents and guerilla forces at every turn, the squad is on a search-and-destruction mission, only with Colonel Rick Flagg to treat them, and Amanda Waller’s government technology to their ears, theirs. Tracking every movement.
“And, as always, one wrong move and they are dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or the Waller himself). If someone is placing a bet, smart money is against them – all of them. against.”
With so many characters in The Suicide Squad, it’s inevitable that most of them will be dropped.
That’s not to say that Harley Quinn, Bloodsport and Peacemaker are immune, either. Gunn previously revealed that he had free rein to kill any supervillain he wanted. total movie) and that each actor knew whether their character will live or die first Suicide Squad production began.
Biased, but I think it’s also @joelkinnaman’s best performance. https://t.co/vlpr0CtyxQ3 June 2021
It will be interesting to see who Gunn kills in The Suicide Squad, and we suspect some of those deaths will be at the hands of the film’s main villain – Staro.
Who is Staro? Simply put, it’s a giant, cosmic starfish-esque monster with a plan for world domination.
In DC Comics, Staro has many abilities (including flight, superhuman strength and regeneration), but its most famous power is its army of mind-controllable starfish. If one of these alien mollusks attaches itself to a host lifeform, Staro is able to control them in any way he sees fit.
This, inevitably, spells trouble for The Suicide Squad. What happens if one (or more) of them become possessed by this Hawking demonic? They can turn on each other and eventually jeopardize the mission.
talking to gecko’s den, Gunn also teased the possibility of more than one villain in The Suicide Squad, so Staro might not be the only major threat to Rick Flag’s gang of convicts.
Why Suicide Squad is being released on the South American island of Corto Maltese, they are tasked with destroying Jotunheim, a Nazi-era prison and laboratory where political prisoners are held and experimented on.
We suspect these experiments will have to do with Staro’s mind-control abilities – after all, we see Staro exiting an underground facility in the film’s trailer. It is possible that Corto’s Maltese army is using it to conduct their mind control experiments, and Staro is accidentally released from his prison by the Suicide Squad.
Suicide Squad Spin-Off: Are There Any?
Yes. A Peacemaker TV series is currently in development for HBO Max. Cena will reprise his role for the show, which will trace the origins of the character. Gunn has written the eight-episode series and will direct several of them.
Other cast members include Steve Edge as John Iaconomos (the same role he would play in The Suicide Squad), Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black) as Leota Adebayo, Robert Patrick (Terminator 2) as Augie Smith and Fred Stroma (Harry). ) as included. Potter) as Adrian Chase/The Vigilante.
Filming is scheduled to end on June 9, before the series premieres on HBO Max in January 2022.
Peacemaker might not be the only spin-off that develops guns, though. Responding to a fan on Twitter in January, Gunn said he’s interested in pursuing other projects around the Suicide Squad lineup, but declined to say who exactly.
Suicide Squad success: Will it win at the box office?
We doubt so. The Suicide Squad is basically an R-rated Guardians of the Galaxy and, given how popular the Marvel series is, it’s highly likely that Gunn and Warner Bros. are winners with this DCEU movie.
There’s clearly an audience for R-rated DC movies. The film’s first Red Band trailer is out Over 150 million views On YouTube a week after its release, which broke the record held by another mature Warner Bros. film in Mortal Kombat.
If it’s any indication, many people are excited to take on a funny, action-packed R-rated DCEU movie…
