Zack Snyder’s new Netflix project finally has a title – and a stacked cast

Zack Snyder has been a busy man of late. The writer-director comes from behind the popular zombie-heist film Army of the Dead and, while that universe is being fleshed out with two more projects, Snyder is also hard at work creating other content for the streaming giant.

Now, the Justice League director has revealed what his next Netflix production will be. It’s called Twilight of the Gods, and it’s an upcoming animated TV show from Snyder, wife Deborah Snyder, and Trace creator Jay Oliva.

Speaking on the fourth day of Netflix Geeked Week, Snyder revealed that his next Netflix project will be a TV series based on Norse mythology — and has a stacked cast to go along with it.

“I wanted to tell you about my next Netflix project, which is totally out [Army of the Dead’s] The world,” said Snyder. “It’s called the Twilight of the Gods, and that’s my take on Norse mythology.”

Twilight of the Gods will be created by animation studio Digital Dimension, with Snyder saying that creating an animated TV series will allow the creative team to “do whatever we want”.

For that all-star cast, the likes of Corey Stoll (Ant-Man), Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead) and Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) are just three of the big names in the gods.

Analysis: Netflix doubles down on Snyder

Following the success of Army of the Dead on Netflix — which became one of its most-watched original films upon launch — it makes sense that the streamer would want to stay in business with the director. He garners a massive audience of ardent followers, and he certainly has a vision as a producer that fits somewhere like Netflix.

The flexibility to run alone time fits him well as a director who tends to make long films—and has the freedom to make the kinds of projects he feels like. While Zack Snyder’s Justice League suggested a world of superhero projects we’d never succeed in, taking a break from comic books probably isn’t a bad thing for a director.
