Here’s your first look at Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka in the upcoming original film Wonka.
The actor captioned the Instagram post sharing the photo on social media, “The suspense is terrible, I hope it lasts… Wonka” – the one made famous by Gene Wilder’s iconic version of Wonka at Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Citation.
Swipe on Instagram, and you’ll see another, closer look: a small, wrapped box inside Wonka’s cane. See post below.
The film will be a prequel, exploring life before Wonka’s massive success. It will also be a musical with original lyrics written by Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy.
Along with Chalamet, the cast includes Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Keegan-Michael Key, Matt Lucas, Tom Davis, Rich Fulcher, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith and Ellie White. Paddington’s assistant Paul King directs the film.
According to a casting announcement, Wonka will dive into “the vivid, mythical beginnings of the imaginative young inventor before becoming the famous scrumdiddlympius Mozart of chocolate.” Expect another whimsical take on the chocolatier.
This isn’t the only Roald Dahl adaptation that headed our way. Netflix recently acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company — and already has a new take on Matilda in the works, with Emma Thompson playing Miss Trunchball and No Time to Die’s Lashana Lynch portraying Miss Honey. Is.
Chalamet can next be seen as Paul Atreides in the science-fiction epic Dune, which is in theaters in the US on October 22 and on HBO Max, and in UK cinemas the same day.
Wonka is scheduled to arrive on March 17, 2023. Until then, check out our guide to all the major movie release dates for 2021.
