fortniteThe season 7 ending event, Operation: Sky Fire, had players go through a wild space ride with an exciting cliffhanger. To add to the tension, publisher Epic Games has shut down the game until the start of Season 8 on Monday.

Operation: Sky Fire puts players in the role of intruders who are sent to take down an alien mothership with bombs strapped to their backs. While the ship came down, so were many other strange objects that players wouldn’t understand until the start of Fortnite Season 8.

Here’s everything you need to know to prepare for Operation: Sky Fire.

Why can’t I play Fortnite?

Following Operation: Sky Fire, Epic shuts down Fortnite for the next 13 hours. Players will have to wait until 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET) on Monday to play the game again.

When did Fortnite’s Operation: Sky Fire event start?

Operation: Sky Fire started 1 a.m. Pacific Time / 4 p.m. Eastern Time Feather Sunday, 12 September. It lasted for about 12 minutes.

What is Operation: Sky Fire?

According to Epic, players “join a strike team and ride aboard the mothership to deliver Io’s final message to the invading aliens,” wrapping up the thread of the story running throughout the season.

When the event began, players were teleported to the mothership wearing special backpacks. Inside, they found parts of the island being sucked into the ship. As players were locked into the ship, the giant pink cube out of the game floor was referred to by the Fortnite community as “Kevin”. The Mystery Cube was a plot point for several seasons in the first chapter of Fortnite.

The energy started killing off “Kevin” other players, but it seemingly ran out of juice and became inactive. This is when the players realized they were only pawns because their backpack had turned into a bomb. However, one by one they started rebooting with “Kevin” turning blue. Before the bombing, players noticed that the other cubes were also rebooted. After a flash, the mothership was a floating wreck and several “Kevins” began to fall on the island. A piece of debris hits the player and the “To Be Continued…” screen pops up.

When does season 8 start?

Fortnite Season 8 begins Monday at 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET). What will change after this incident is still a mystery.
