Genshin Impact developer MiHoYo is bringing its previous game, Honkai Impact 3, to Steam this month.
This is according to the newly minted Honkai Impact 3 steam page, which lists October 2021 as its planned release date. Mihoyo announced the Steam version of the game, originally released on iOS and Android in 2016 through its official Twitter, teasing a “mystery present” for players trying it out.
Somewhat surprisingly, Mihoyo also confirmed that the Steam version of Honkai Impact 3 will not support cross-play with the current mobile version. In other words, you won’t be able to get your account into Steam if you’ve already played it. Honkai Impact 3rd is already playable on PC via mobile emulators like BlueStacks, with the Steam version likely to be more popular among new players. If nothing else, it should simplify the process of playing the game on PC, and hopefully get better performance as well.
Honkai Impact 3 is the spiritual successor to Honkai Academy 2. Compared to Genshin Impact, the Mihoyo game is now best known, it is much more flashy and over-the-top. The biggest difference compared to Genshin Impact is that it is not an open-world game. Instead, Honkai Impact 3 challenges players to hordes and bosses to clear levels as they command powerful warriors called Valkyries.
As an older and more established gacha game, Honkai Impact 3 already has a mountain of characters, currencies, and content, so it can be overwhelming for new players who had their first gacha experience with Genshin Impact. It builds and maintains a loyal community for a cause, plus it’s free, so whether you’re looking for a new action RPG or you just like Mihoyo’s style, it’s worth a play. If nothing else, everyone and their dog should be watching Incredible Honkai Animated Shorts MiHoYo has held out over the years.
