Here we go with the last show for 2021, recorded in mid-December. This was Frank Radice’s last show from New York before returning to London. It was nice to say goodbye to the year, but we were careful not to say good riddance like 2020. It’s nice to feel good about a Zoom-connected friendship, and appreciate the flow of work from anywhere. Still being productive.

To me, the heartbeat of technology and its impact on many things we struggle with – politics, streaming and media businesses – was and remains clear. Maybe crypto will find its moment, but I wouldn’t gamble on that. Midterms loom, and social networks are turning to topsy-turvy and live audio, but I wouldn’t bet the kind of numbers that will turn Wall Street just yet. Newsletters are looking like more and more publishers, and publishers are going to startups to make it pass, but the talent won’t need funding to make it last.

The stars that define the night sky haven’t seen a change since Bill Gates and the Google twins ruled the world. Dorsey, who invented Twitter as a side project, and Andreessen, who accelerated thinking from 1X to at least 2X, are now skating ahead of the curve, more aligned than the media wants them to be. . Television is gone, replaced by a hybrid of computer, mobile and short films that would survive the machine movie of the fifties. The Beatles are now the old guard, grappling with the transition from children to parents to divorce and reincarnation. The more we relive the footage, the more we realize what an incredibly daring process they opened for the doors of our perception. Only they were too big to fail and did it anyway, and still see how far cooperation can go. As James Taylor echoed:

shower the people you love with love
show them how you feel
things are going to be alright
if only you would
do as I say
