Take the good for the bad: I have good news and bad news. The good news is that Warner Bros Game Montréal has treated us to a 13-minute video for Gotham Knights showing off some of the gameplay. The bad news is that at the same time, the studio said it would not be releasing the game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

When Warner Bros. disclosed Gotham Knights in August 2020, it was supposed to be released on current and last generation consoles along with the PC version. It was scheduled to launch on an unspecified date in 2021. In March 2021 the studio announced he delayed the release of the game until 2022, but said nothing about canceling the last generation versions.

In March WB finally announced the exact release date is October 25, 2022. Again, the latest generation versions seem to be on track – at least the developer hasn’t indicated otherwise. WB Games said today that it has been forced to cut Gotham Knights for PS4 and Xbone in order to give players the “best possible gaming experience.”

On the one hand, this is sad for those who own the latest generation of consoles or cannot buy a PS5 or XSX due to shortages. The game looks spectacular if you are into Batman games. On the other hand, I’m a big proponent of developers focusing on current generation hardware and getting it right before porting it to older platforms. I hope more studios start narrowing their focus as well.

Anyway, Warner also released a 13-minute gameplay trailer showing Night Wing and Red Hood in action (above). The previous alpha footage released along with the announcement teaser was dedicated to Bat Girl. All we need now is some Robin gameplay to complete it. Or we can just wait a few months and play in October.
