Since the Black Widow post-credits scene, it looks like Hawkeye and Yelena Belova are heading on a collision course.

That moment saw Florence Pugh’s ex-widow at the grave of Natasha Romanoff, who sacrificed herself in Avengers: Endgame for the Soul Stone—instead of letting Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton go over the edge. In Black Widow, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Val tells Yelena that Hawkeye was responsible for Natasha’s death, and placed the archer firmly in Yelena’s crosshair.

GamesRadar+ sat down with Hawkeye director Rhys Thomas, and asked if we’d see the Avenger and the Assassin at each other’s throats in the series.

“I can’t talk to her,” he tells us. “But yeah, we know their past, and obviously that’s what happened in Endgame. We know in these first two episodes that Clint is dealing with the fallout of that. But how they meet, I can’t– I’ll just pretend I don’t know. Imagine it’s a pleasant meeting, where they talk over coffee and work.”

With the MCU becoming a huge conglomeration of intertwined stories in many movies and TV shows, we also spoke to Thomas about how Hawkeye slots in wide.

“It’s definitely a standalone thing that we have this Christmas setting, and it’s a very fixed time frame story,” he reveals. “But this being the MCU, of course, it all adds up in some way or another. And we have new characters, and that was added at the end of Black Widow as well. And so everything would have always been a good entry point. But I think for the most part, the story is its own little world.”

Hawkeye will arrive on Disney Plus this November 24, with the first two episodes premiering simultaneously. In the meantime, check out our full guide to Marvel Phase 4 for everything the MCU has in store for us.
