io Interactive has unveiled the upcoming goodies for Hitman 3 as part of its Year 2 update and our PC gamers are spoiled.

As revealed in a stream, Hitman 3 is coming to Steam on January 20th after its year of exclusivity on the Epic Game Store, along with being available for Game Pass for PC members as well as a single on both platforms. The trilogy bundle is also coming. Ray tracing is being added and Hitman VR—previously exclusive to PlayStation 4—is being made available for PC.

By far the most interesting part of the stream was Freelancer, a new genre littered with roguelike elements. It sets up Agent 47 in his customizable safe house, which will provide a variety of missions to tackle. “You have to find some criminal enterprise that is slowly destroying the world and you have to choose who you really hate and go against them,” Associate Game Director Jonas Brem Jensen explained during the stream. “So really a campaign is a bunch of missions that span across the world of assassination.”

Each mission will provide clues as to who the overall leader is, until you encounter them in the last place. Even then it won’t be entirely clear who Big Boss is, says principal designer Torbjörn Vinther Christensen, and you’ll need to use all the intel gathered from previous levels to understand who it is. “When you play over and over it feels so random,” Christensen continued. “You can’t really learn the mission. You have to think every time.” Leaders will also have deadly companions that are hidden from sight or other NPCs that can scare or alert the leader and encourage them to run away.

io Interactive says that roguelike elements come through in things like the way Agent 47 handles gear and weapons. Suppliers will be arranged around levels where you can buy equipment and build your arsenal. Dying or discarding the item means it’s gone for good, and you’ll need to find a supplier again to replace it.

Freelancer mode sounds like a lot of fun—I love the idea of embellishing 47’s pad with a gorgeous home gym or throwing some fancy lanterns in his garden. It’s also sure to provide some challenge for those who have become accustomed to remembering every inch of Hitman 3’s more scripted story levels.

Hitman 3 Year 2 starts on January 20th, with Freelancer Mode coming a little later this spring.
