Honor has been teasing the imminent launch of its first fully-foldable phone for the past few weeks. The Honor Magic V first appeared in an official teaser video on Honor’s Twitter account in December. Earlier this week, the company confirmed a January 10 launch date for the phone, but Honor did its best to ensure that we didn’t see the full picture of the phone ahead of its launch.

Luckily for us, after the Chinese edition of Esquire magazine went ahead, Honor’s plan to keep the chic looks of the Honor Magic V under wraps went awry and posted an image On the Weibo account of Honor Magic V. The image shows the Honor Magic V in the palm of Chinese actress Song Yi.

The Unit Yi seems to have a hitherto unseen vegan/fox leather finish on the rear panel of the phone. Previous glimpses of the phone have always shown the device in a silver/metallic trim. The image also shows the metal frame of the phone and the speaker grille that point upwards. We have already seen the triple camera array in the previous pictures. The image also shows the power and volume buttons on the right.

An expensive Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 alternative?

Hours after the picture was leaked, another post surfaced on Weibo – apparently from the launch rehearsal of the Honor Magic 3. Someone out there apparently managed to grab an image of the estimated price of the Magic V. From the picture, we can make out that the phone will come in two variants:

  • Honor Magic V 12/256GB – 13,999 Yuan ($2,200)
  • Honor Magic V 12/256GB – 14,999 Yuan ($2,350)
Honor Magic V price leaked.

While a little can be true about the two variants, there is a good chance that the prices mentioned here are meant as placeholders. Even though the Honor Magic V may never make it out of China, if it does, it will need to be priced equal to or less than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 to be even remotely competitive.

From what is known so far, the Honor Magic V is likely to get Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and will run on Android 12. If it launches outside China, the phone will also support Google services. Other rumors include a 50MP primary camera, support for 66-watt fast charging, and high refresh rate internal (120Hz) and external (90Hz) screens.
