iOS 16: What will Apple announce at WWDC? What do you need to know

On Monday, Apple will host a virtual WWDC keynote from its California headquarters, where it will likely share details on the latest software updates for iPhone, iPad, and MacBook computers.

Tentatively named iOS 16, the next software update will introduce a new look and feel to all iPhones. Apple will also likely introduce a new version of its iPadOS and WatchOS for iPad and Apple Watch.

iPhone always-on screen

The lock screen may be undergoing a radical transformation, according to Bloomberg. According to the report, iOS 16 will include support for an always-on display that will provide basic information to users. For context, some Samsung smartphones have an always-on display with information such as date, time, and notifications.

The report says that the lock screen will also support wallpapers, capable of offering information such as widgets to iPhone owners.

Update messages

The Messages app on the iPhone may also see some changes. reports Bloomberg Posts could have supported more social media-style features, but didn’t specify exactly how that could change.

The Health app is expected to add new features available to both iPhone and Apple Watch, according to Bloomberg.

The question is whether older models, starting with the iPhone 6S, released almost seven years ago, will still work with the latest version of iOS. If you’re clinging to one of these models, it might be time to consider upgrading.
