The old Flash puzzler Manufactoria has disappeared with the demise of Adobe Flash, but developer PleasingFungus Games has released a sequel or reboot or whatever you want to call it: Manufactory 2022. Released this week on Steam, it’s a puzzler where you arrange conveyors and machines to program, deprogram, and reprogram robots. As the campaign progresses, you move into larger locations and build more complex factories.
If you remember and liked the original Flash game, you’ll probably love this revival. It’s decorated with some uplifting storylines and some interesting, fun character designs to boot.
I played the game for a few hours today and found it to be a lovely, light series of programming and logic puzzles. It’s similar to the deep-thinking puzzlers of games from developers like Zachtronics, but it also really makes you want to enjoy the ride. There’s no dark, brooding theme and it doesn’t have a fairly aggressive difficulty curve.
Unlike other games in the genre, I felt it focused more on optimal solutions than on a big, awkward sandbox where you can make stupid things—though as the campaign progresses, you’ll definitely get better. Can do more customization if that’s your bag.
you can find Manufactory 2022 on Steam.
