Marvel what if…? The episode ends after the ninth episode on Disney Plus, with the Watcher breaking his oath, intervening to save the Multiverse, and focusing little on Black Widow in the season finale. While Marvel Studios’ first animated offering hasn’t always been first class, as is often the case with anthology shows in general, its creative successes outweighed its failures.

The good news is that the series was commissioned for two seasons from the start – 10 episodes were intended for both Seasons 1 and 2 of What If, as confirmed by Marvel’s Kevin Feige in December 2019. Whereas in Season 1 only nine made it. And with nine more coming in season 2, the future of the show is secure, with a second season expected next year.

So, what do we know about Marvel’s What If…? season 2? Below, we’ll find out everything the producers have to say about the show’s future so far, including its release date, and how the Season 1 finale’s post-credits sequence could tie into future episodes.

Will a miracle happen if…? season 2?

Yes. The series was announced during San Diego Comic Con (remember?) in July 2019, and as of December 2019, Marvel’s Kevin Feige was telling Buzzfeed Brazil that they were already working on the second half of the episode. . Animation needs to last longer, so it makes sense that Marvel started season two by leap.

Is Marvel What If…? Season 2 release date?

There is no release date for What If…? Season 2 yet, but we wouldn’t expect the wait to be as long as it is for specific Marvel productions. Getting commissioned for two seasons means it’s a little easier for the show’s creators to foresee the future. The target is to release Season 2 in 2022, according to producer Brad Winderbaum in conversation with Screen Rant.

“As you know with animation, it takes a long time to make. We were lucky we got the green light on a second season and had a chance to release it next year. We’ll see what happens. Obviously, I don’t want to predict the future with the new world we live in, but we intend to make it an annual release.”

According to an Entertainment Weekly interview conducted with director Brian Andrews and lead writer AC Bradley, various episodes of Season 2 are in various stages of production. One is almost complete, while the other still needs a lot of work. So who can say when season 2 will start.

So, if the show gets a third season, you can expect to see it in 2023. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves…

what would happen if…? Explore the Stories of Season 2 MCU Phase 4?

Season 2 “will definitely include movies from Phase 4”, Kevin Feige told Screen Rant in August. This means that the likes of Black Widow, Shang-Chi, Eternal, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could be featured in the next set of anthology episodes.

This should help keep things fresh as the show progresses. We wouldn’t be surprised to see that the show explores different spins on the various Disney Plus Marvel series.

We’ll also get cut episodes from season 1. what if…? Speaking to Entertainment Weekly after the season 1 finale, Andrews confirmed that a story involving Gamora (to which we were surprisingly introduced in Episode 9), Tony Stark and Sakar will appear in Season 2.

We shouldn’t expect to see many of the Season 1 stories in Season 2 as well. Speaking to Variety, Bradley said: “A lot of Season 1 episodes were resolved enough in the finale … so we try to get some closure on all those stories in the finale.”

It would seem that what if…? Season 2, then, will focus on new stories from previous MCU productions.

Marvel what if…? Episode 9 post-credits: How could this scene tie into Season 2?

Season 1 ends with Captain Carter—the star of Episode 1, who returned for this finale—being sent back home to his reality. If you wait for the post-credits scene in Episode 9 as well, you’ll notice that Peggy has a really happy ending.

Natasha shows him in a warehouse where we see the Hydra stopper from Episode 1 – and someone is inside the mech. While we assumed that Steve Rogers’ version of Captain Carter was destroyed in Episode 1, this appears to confirm that he survived.

No matter what reality we’re talking about, Peggy can find a satisfying conclusion with Steve. However, according to Bradley (per EW), Peggy may be getting an episode in Season 2, so will probably have to wait for her happy ending.
