Mondstadt is the first major city in Genshin Impact, and essentially serves as the main center of the game for much of its length. This is where you meet tons of game characters, pick up quests, and generally spend a lot of time. Genshin is equivalent to Whiterun, if you wish. It was only a matter of time before Minecrafters became interested in a popular videogame for such a city.

A German group called Skyblock Squad, led by Marvin Schmidt, spent the past five months recreating Mondstadt in Minecraft on a roughly 1:1 scale (thanks, nme) I say almost because, while that was the ambition, the team had to go with a 1:1.15 scale because of the limitations of adding detail to Minecraft, and especially interior detail. This in turn allowed the group to build the city with the most important buildings that had genshin-accurate interiors.

The timelapse video below shows most of the city, and there’s no denying that it’s a beautiful construction.

“Rebuilding an entire city from another game is quite a challenge because you have to take measurements and get the scale right so it looks right in Minecraft,” reads Skyblock Squad’s build description. “The city is actually a little bigger than 1:1 scale because Minecraft has got limited ways to get expansion into your builds. Marvin started planning everything in early August and we finally finished it, so this That’s 5 months in total.”
