Analysis: Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 future

The Moto Edge X30 will be one of the first phones we see running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, but many more handsets will follow. As with the launch of any processor from Qualcomm, there are a slew of new features to look forward to.

For a start the chipset is supposed to enable always-on cameras – not to keep you under constant surveillance, but to enable functionality like hands-free unlocking (since your phone will be able to recognize who you are while it doing other work).

There are also updates in terms of reducing background noise on phone calls and reaching 10Gbps internet speed. If you have access to the latest and greatest 5G connection, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is going to make sure you’re always connected at the fastest speeds possible.

Then of course there are performance improvements too: The chipset means that Android phones by 2022 will be faster and more capable than ever, with the Snapdragon 888 jumping about 20% in terms of speed.
