Development of Baldur’s Gate 3 continues, and Larian has announced that Patch 6 will be its “biggest ever”. This will be a download of about 60GB, although of course some of them will overwrite the original files, so don’t expect the install size to be that much.
What’s in Patch 6? Larian’s Declaration Intentionally vague, but says “If you’re attending EGX in London this week, you’ll get a special preview… featuring a new playable class. Who’s ready to cast some magic?” This suggests that the wizard square is a possible addition, as it is the most magic-building of the options from D&D 5e that have not yet been added.
Patch 6 will also include, er, Equipable Salami. it’s an easter egg reference for something interactive LARP Larian played during the final part of his Panel From Hell livestream, and it looks like it happens at a typical D&D game. Players will use any ridiculous item as a weapon or trap-disarmament device if you allow them. “Yeah,” added Larian’s blog post on the topic of salami, “they can be of the double type.”
The next panel from Hell is clearly “around the corner” and will “serve as a deep dive into the new content for Patch 6. Obviously a new class and some salami don’t add up to 60GB, so there’s bound to be plenty to talk about.
Whenever this patch arrives, it will be another patch that is incompatible with previous save games. You will have to either restart or join the beta branch to stay on the old patch, and the announcement is at the bottom Instructions for how to do this. Larian expects Baldur’s Gate 3 to be ready to leave Early Access in 2022.
