Want to quench your thirst? How about a big nice sip of ramen-flavored soda? Japan-based Nissin Foods is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Cup Noodle Instant Noodle Soup this month, selling four flavors of ramen-flavored carbonated soda. According to Sora News 24, Also in a tweet from the company, there are a basic cup of noodle soda, a seafood-accented cream soda, a curry-accented cola, and a chili-tomato soda, all in different colors.
Sure, some people heartily sip the broth in a bowl of ramen, but somehow cracking open a bottle of ramen-flavored carbonated soda just feels wrong. It’s hard to imagine grabbing for a drink made to taste like seafood or curry.
Still, if that’s your drinking dream, having a friend in Japan will help. Sodas can be pre-ordered Nissin’s website or at some other Japanese retailers, including Amazon Japan. Looks like you have to buy the entire 50th anniversary set, including all four sodas, eight cups of noodle snacks and eight cups of noodle soup, for 2,998 yen (about US$28, £20, AU$37).
A Nissan representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether the product could be shipped to countries other than Japan, or if there is a sales site in English.
Japan is not alone, however, offering the occasional main course-flavored soda. Jones Soda, a Seattle-based American company, has rolled out a ton of wacky holiday drinks, including a Thanksgiving offer turkey and gravy soda.
