TLDR: It’s time for a poll on Steam. Valve’s monthly report on hardware and software found on users’ computers shows that May was another great period for Nvidia’s Ampere series, with the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 as the top two graphics cards. AMD also had reason to rejoice after the Radeon RX 6800 XT became the latest RDNA 2 card to join the mainstream GPU table.
May saw RTX 3080 users increase 0.24% among Steam survey participants. It is followed by the RTX 3070 (+0.19%) and the RTX 3060 is fourth (+0.18%). The green team in the top ten was joined by the Radeon RX 6800 XT with a 0.15% share. It now sits alongside other RDNA 2 cards – the Radeon RX 6600, Radeon RX 6600 XT, Radeon RX 6700 XT, and Radeon RX 6900 XT – on the main chart, which increased in numbers last month.
The ten most popular cards have remained unchanged since April. The top GPU, the GTX 1060, increased user count last month, cementing the number one position it has held for over four years.
The rise in the number of people using the latest Nvidia and AMD graphics cards reflects the industry’s long-awaited return to near-normality. Cards are slow Ever nearer to the recommended retail price as affordability improves and cryptocurrency mining becomes less tempting.
Dr. Lisa Su is also likely to smile as she looks at the CPU diagram. Last month, AMD took another piece of the pie, slowly but surely closing the gap on Intel, adding another 1.24% to its user base. However, Team Blue is still in the lead with a 67.19% share.
Elsewhere, Windows 11 is now just 0.41% less than every fifth user’s PC. More than half of the participants have 16 GB of RAM in their machines, and a quarter have their own video cards with 8 GB of video memory. The Oculus Quest 2, meanwhile, is 2% away from having a 50% share in the VR headset segment.
