Outgoing Amazon CEO Dave Clark to lead logistics startup Flexport

Dave Clark, the former head of consumer experience at Amazon, will take over as CEO of freight forwarding and customs brokerage startup Flexport effective September 1, 2022.

Clark has resigned as CEO of Amazon’s global consumer division. on Friday. His last day at a major tech company will be July 1, after which he will join Flexport as co-CEO along with the current executive. Ryan Peterson. Clark’s new role is a sign that Flexport hopes to grow from a buzzy start-up to a major player in the logistics industry, rivaling other companies of the past. This is what Peterson’s recent tweet says.

“In my 23 years at Amazon [Clark] rose from Amazon’s rotating MBA program to CEO of Worldwide Consumer. In the process, he and his team have built much of their legendary order fulfillment, logistics and transportation network,” Peterson wrote on Wednesday. “Flexport is on track to become one of the world’s most important supply chain and logistics technology platforms. Given the scale of the opportunity ahead of us, Flexport doesn’t need another leader. We need another entrepreneur.”

Flexport offers digital freight forwarding and other software tools for clear visibility supply chain management, order management, customs assistance, carbon offsets, cargo insurance, trade strategy advice and more. Oh, and, of course, a huge amount of data that will help make the startup itself better, while improving the customer experience.

Flexport has raised over $2 billion from major investors including SoftBank, Shopify, the Peter Thiel Founders Foundation and Andreessen Horowitz.
