The company hasn’t announced the app’s debut, perhaps because it’s not currently available to all creators. Instead, on first launch, creators must enter a code or scan a barcode that Pinterest provides to access the live streaming tools provided by the app.

However, the addition of a dedicated live streaming app is yet another example of Pinterest reimagining its place in the wider social media landscape, where the rise of TikTok has pushed other platforms to focus on video. Today, major social players including Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and YouTube have a short video feature similar to TikTok, and most of them offer features for creating live video content.

Pinterest, meanwhile, is working on its own video efforts with the launch of Idea Pins, a sort of video mashup of both TikTok-style short video content and listenable Stories. Company during your earnings Last week, the company reported that the number of idea pin saves was up more than 25% from the previous quarter. And Pinterest users who follow multiple video creators on the site tend to visit Pinterest more often than those who don’t, the company said.

Meanwhile, Pinterest last November also announced the launch of Pinterest TV – a series of live videos with the possibility of purchase from the creators of food, home, fashion, beauty, DIY and more. Shows are broadcast live and then made available to watch on demand. Initially, the platform was only available to selected authors selected at launch, including the likes of Christian Siriano, Monica Suriage, Tom Daly, Manny Mua, Robin Schull, and more. According to Sensor Tower, the brand new Pinterest TV Studio app has been launched on App Store and Google games from May 2, 2022. It doesn’t have enough downloads to rank the app on any app store charts, and the firm is unable to estimate total downloads at this time.

However, the app is available in several markets outside of the US, including Canada, Australia, the UK, and Germany, signaling a potential global expansion of Pinterest TV’s efforts.

Pinterest confirmed the launch with a statement but said it had nothing more to say about the app at the moment.

“As more creators develop innovative experiences using Pinterest TV on the platform, we’re constantly experimenting with new ways to help creators bring their ideas to life,” the spokesperson said.
