A new Rainbow Six Extraction trailer breaks down the game’s additional challenging endgame mode, called Maelstrom.

For beginners, Maelstrom is essentially a tougher but more rewarding version of the core Rainbow Six Extraction experience. Instead of the usual maximum of 3 objectives in a row, Maelstrom tasks you with completing 9 consecutive objectives in any given area. And just to spice things up, there’s a different mutation each round to keep you on your toes and give you a chance to earn some bonus XP. For example, during one race you may encounter a thick fog that obscures your view and makes it difficult to shoot accurately, and in another run the fog may be replaced by poisonous alien goo. which harms your health if you touch it.

He is not everything. For every 3 objectives you complete, the difficulty increases, and along the way the variety of ammo and the number of available health refill stations gradually decreases. Finally, as you progress, the time limit for each objective gets shorter, creating an increasingly intense tension in the mix. Thankfully, there are “attractive XP and reaction credit rewards” and special seasonal headgear to earn as rewards for your efforts.

Maelstrom’s lineup of objectives, mutation, and selection of operators is rotated each week, meaning your first run of the week will be a total surprise, but subsequent runs in the same week will have similar parameters. Since it is very challenging and there is a high chance of you failing in your first run, this gives you a chance to plan to succeed in subsequent attempts.

Rainbow Six Extraction launches on January 20 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Google Stadia and Amazon Luna.
