Running news: “I know they have been influenced and directed by people who do not have the interests of the American people in mind,” the squad member said.

  • Tlaib spoke Friday morning shortly after the House passed the $1.75 trillion “Build Back Better” bill.
  • “I fear what might happen as the Senate accepts the bill,” he said. “I fear those groups will guide this agenda. It will be the people who continue to benefit from human suffering.”
  • “We have corporate dams,” Tlaib said.

Asked if she was talking about munchkin and cinema, Tlaib said: “It’s those two, but I think there are others that … there are prescription drug interactions issues.”

  • “And so I can’t say it’s just those two. They seem to be leading the fight, but I wouldn’t be surprised if people hide behind them.”
  • Spokesmen for Munchkin and Cinema did not respond to requests for comment.

Between the lines: Munchkin and cinema made the most out of the negotiations. according to recent polls By MBE Research, Manchin is almost twice as popular in West Virginia as President Biden — and his constituents are more than comfortable with him opposing big spending bills.

  • Both senators have substantially reduced the size of the bill from the $6 trillion progressives already discussed – and the $3.5 trillion Biden originally proposed.
  • Cinema also dramatically limited tax increases that could be used to pay for additional expenses.
  • Munchkin also indicated that he wants more changes on the spending side.
  • Progressives like Tlaib are nervous as they wonder how many more of their priorities will be cut.

Highlights from the interview:

  • Tlaib said that filibuster was an instrument of racism.
  • She replied “I don’t know,” when asked why more than half of Senate Democrats, including now-Vice President Kamala Harris, signed a 2017 letter to Senate leaders urging them to preserve the legislative filibuster.
  • Tlaib also discussed what the “Build Back Better” bill means for his constituents in America’s third poorest district; his desire to reduce funding for police departments and re-imagine public safety; And he supported a 2020 proposal that would empty federal prisons within 10 years.
