Now Sennheiser introduces its popular earbuds with noise cancellation similar to the AirPods Pro and Sony WF-1000XM3, as well as better battery life and a more compact design.
price and availability
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 costs $299 / £279 / AU$499.95, making them significantly more expensive than our current top true wireless earbuds, the Sony WF-1000XM3, which cost $230 / £220 / AU$400.
That’s the same price their predecessors launched last year—if you want to save money, it might be worth looking at the first-generation Momentum true wireless earbuds, as you can usually find them at a discount.
There is a chance that the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 will decrease in the coming time. amazon prime day 2021 The sale, which takes place June 21-22 this year. We’ll never know for sure which devices will fall short, but there are big discounts on earbuds and headphones, so if you need a new pair, it may be worth paying to wait.
If you have reservations about parting with so much cash for a pair of earbuds, spending a little time with the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 will lead you to believe that these buds are very well made, with a great finish. With you would expect at this price.
The new true wireless earbuds look very similar to the originals, with a glossy metallic touch-sensitive housing and a rounded shape. The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 looks really sleek and their silver finish looks sleek and stylish without being too flashy. Even the inside of these buds looks good, with gold-plated charging pins and LEDs indicating the status of their pairing.
The charging case is equally sophisticated, with a gray woven finish; On the back you’ll find a USB-C charging port and a small button that you can press to see how much battery is in the case via a bright red, orange, or green LED.
Sennheiser says the Momentum True Wireless 2 is 2mm smaller than the original – and with three additional eartips in the box, you should be able to find a secure fit.
However, if your ears are on the smaller side (like ours), you may find that the circular housing feels a bit uncomfortable; After a long listening session, our ears hurt a lot.
We don’t think this is a problem all users will face, but it’s worth noting that if you have small ears, you may find these buds too big to use comfortably.
If you find the fit comfortable, you should be able to use the IPX4-rated Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 as running earbuds, as they can resist the slightest sweat or a few drops of rain.
Touch-sensitive housings allow you to answer or decline phone calls, adjust your music playback, and summon your device’s voice assistant. We found the controls to work really well, and if you prefer, you can assign various functions to the controls via the Sennheiser Smart Controls app. There’s also a nifty auto-pause feature that pauses your music when you remove the buds from your ears – handy if you’re in a hurry.
These controls allow you to toggle noise cancellation on and off, along with a transparency mode that allows environmental sound to pass through the buds—useful if you’re using these earbuds to work out and stay away from your surroundings. want to be aware.
Battery life and connectivity
These Buds also boast much longer battery life than their predecessors, seven hours ahead of the Buds and 21 hours ahead of the charging case. Four hours in the earbuds and eight hours from the charging case, putting them on par with the best true wireless earbuds of 2020.
Pairing them with our smartphones was a breeze, thanks to support for the latest wireless streaming standard, Bluetooth 5.1 — and with support for Qualcomm’s aptX codec, you can stream Hi-Res audio over Bluetooth without any problems.
Like its predecessors, the Momentum True Wireless 2 is packing 7mm dynamic drivers, which Sennheiser says will create “excellent stereo sound, with deep bass, natural mids, and clear, wide treble.”
Listening to SBTRKT’s Wildfire feat Little Dragon, the Momentum True Wireless 2 excellently navigated tight synth bass, clear, smooth vocals, and textured highs that sounded punchy without being overly harsh.
As we walked into the banana rewind, we were amazed at how terrifying the lowest frequencies felt, with a chest intensity we wouldn’t normally expect from true wireless earbuds.
That doesn’t mean the mid and treble frequencies were neglected, as the high-hats and lush RnB vocals were hilarious and blooming throughout the track.
A wide soundstage and plenty of crisp detail make the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 a worthy rival to the Sony WF-1000XM3—though we wouldn’t say they’re as tightly controlled as the latter.
The noise-canceling is also not up to par with Sony’s buds. We found that, while they block out some environmental noise, a fair amount was able to leak out—though turn up your music, and the rest of the world would melt away.
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2’s sound quality, battery life, and design are nothing short of excellent, and we’d wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for an alternative to the Sony WF-1000XM3—the differences are really negligible.
We’d be hesitant to recommend these buds if your ears are on the smaller side – in any case, make sure the vendor you choose allows returns where the product isn’t defective. (Sennheiser, for example, doesn’t allow this if you deal with the company directly.)
Otherwise, though, these true wireless earbuds should be a great buy for anyone willing to cut the cord, with enough sound right to keep even the hardcore audiophile happy.
