Who knows if this is FOMO or actual customer demand for such a thing, but today Salesforce announced that it is starting a pilot project. Cloud NFTa new platform for buying and selling these crypto assets.
It’s a twist on the future, the company says, which it insists comes from customer curiosity. “Salesforce is seeing interest from CMOs and CIOs who seek help with web3, and we are passionate about bringing new innovations, products, and offerings to our customers in a way that enables them to build and maintain meaningful relationships with their customers,” Adam. Kaplan, senior vice president of emerging technology at Salesforce, told TechCrunch.
The goal of the company with this product is to make NFT sales more accessible. “The NFT Cloud is designed to help our clients create, manage and sell NFTs, all without code, of course. So on our platform it’s very easy to abstract away all the complex technologies in this [new] web3 world,” he said.
He says he sees interest in a wide variety of areas, including retail, media, fashion and consumer products. “It’s really about engagement and community engagement, and we’re seeing very passionate communities in the NFT space…” Kaplan explained.
He sees it as a way to sell customers something of potential value to them. “It’s about utility. By utility, we mean that as an NFT holder I get certain benefits. It could be something in the digital world or something in the physical world,” he said.
This may include receiving a new type of clothing every quarter in exchange for NFT ownership, or in the game environment, you may receive special abilities that non-NFT owners cannot access.
While some may question the ethical and environmental implications of the sale of these assets, including group of 400 employeeswho reportedly sent a letter of protest to co-CEOs Marc Benioff and Bret Taylor in February, Kaplan insisted they were doing it in line with Salesforce values.
“We want to help our clients evaluate if there is a viable way forward with NFT technology in a sustainable and ethical manner,” he said.
In 2018, the company announced that it was working on a blockchain product. In 2019 he presented blockchain development tool. It’s not something you’ve heard much about anymore, but the company has a Salesforce blockchain tutorial. Trailhead training site.
If you want to try NFT Cloud, you may have to wait. It’s currently in a closed pilot, and as of now, Salesforce hasn’t indicated when it will go public.
