Samsung announces OneUI update for Galaxy watch with QWERTY keyboard and assistive features

Samsung has announced the One UI 4.5 update for galaxy watch, including a full QWERTY keyboard, customizable watch faces and dual SIM support. The update will sit on top of Wear OS 3.5 and will be available for Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Watch4 Classic and other future models.

Nearly a year after Apple introduced a full-fledged QWERTY keyboard with Apple Watch 7Samsung is bringing this feature to the Galaxy Watch. If you don’t want to spend ages typing every letter when composing a sentence, you can easily type words with a swipe. You can also quickly switch to other input methods, such as voice dictation and handwriting, using the rotating bezel gestures.

Samsung is also introducing dual-SIM support for the Galaxy Watch, so if the phone has a preferred SIM, the watch will show the same setting. During a call, you can also easily switch between SIM cards from the watch.

Smartwatch software updates aren’t complete without some watch face features, and you get more customization options like saving different styles of the same watch face as favorites with One UI 4.5. You can easily swipe through your favorites list to customize the watch face for different moods.

With this update, Samsung is also introducing a number of special features to make navigation easier for people with visual or hearing impairments. You can adjust hue and contrast levels, reduce transparency and blur levels, and turn off animations for better visibility.

Other tools include adjusting the balance for Bluetooth headset audio output, extending the touch duration, and ignoring repeated touches. Users will be able to specify a duration for controls like volume and stay on screen so they can take action.

Samsung’s announcement of a new update for the Galaxy Watch comes a day after Apple released its update. Watch OS 9 public beta with features such as improved arrhythmia detection and sleep stage measurement. By comparison, Samsung’s latest update focuses more on visual and accessibility aspects than fitness and health.
