The Samsung Galaxy S22 is expected in the coming weeks, and the latest leak has suggested that all three members of the series will come with a new toughened glass to protect against drops and other damage.
A new leak from popular tipster Ice Universe states that the Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra will feature a new technology called Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+.
We’ve seen Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on existing smartphones – it’s also on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra – and it’s believed that this new Plus version will be an improvement in some way. Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly what that will be.

Corning hasn’t disclosed this technology yet, and Ice Universe hasn’t provided any details about what kind of protection this new upgrade will provide.
The standard Victus technology is marketed as a technology that could mean your smartphone has a higher chance of surviving drops of up to 2 meters. Expect similar figures with slight improvements on these new smartphones.
The message from Ice Universe does not share whether we will see this technology on the front, back or both sides of the smartphone. The fact that the source has not mentioned this important element, makes us think that it could be on both the sides of the phone.
Previous leaks have suggested that all three variants of the Galaxy S22 series will sport a glass rear. The Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus both featured plastic designs, while the Galaxy S21 Ultra was the only variant made of glass on the rear.
Analysis: It Won’t Just Be For Samsung, Though
If Corning is making this new technology, it won’t be exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy S22 range. We can see this in many more phones coming in 2022.
Existing Victus technology debuted on the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, but has made its way to a number of other smartphones after it was revealed in mid-2020.
This could mean that we see Victus Plus on other upcoming devices such as Oppo Find X4 Pro, Xiaomi 12 Ultra and Sony Xperia 1 IV.
Apple’s line of iPhones (including the iPhone 13) come with a different technology called Ceramic Shield, but it’s made by the same Corning that makes Gorilla Glass. Apple claims its technology is tougher than any other smartphone glass, but that may not be the case now that the Victus+ makes its way into the market.
