Samsung is reportedly working on the Galaxy Home Mini 2 – a new entry in its mysterious stop-start smart speaker lineup.
If the name Samsung Galaxy Home Mini isn’t ringing any bells for you, and you’re wondering why there’s a ‘2’, you’re not alone – the original Home Mini was only available in South Korea with the purchase of the Galaxy S20 phone, While the regular Galaxy Home smart device was announced in 2018, it never actually launched.
Despite this, Samsung is getting another crack in the smart speaker game, according to the leaker Max Jambor, who recently tweeted “Galaxy Home Mini 2 (SM-V320) is not too far away now.”
In a follow-up tweet, jambor couple “In other words: production started” signifies that there could be an announcement sometime this year.
Adding More Fuel to the Fire, Website Sammobile It was reported late last year that its sources had told them that a new Galaxy Home Mini was in the works.
While we should always take rumors with a pinch of salt, the fact that we’ve seen multiple reports now suggests that we can really expect a new smart speaker from Samsung – but what could it look like?
There haven’t been many detailed leaks yet, but we can hazard a few predictions.
While it’s easy to imagine that the Galaxy Home Mini 2 will take cues from its South Korea-exclusive predecessor, which looked like a more rounded Google Nest Mini and relied on the Bixby assistant, we believe a new Samsung speaker will also feature a screen. but not like the Google Nest Hub or Amazon Show.
Instead, we think it will be a folding display as we reported back in September 2021. At the time we discussed a video from the South Korean IMID Expo, which showed a Samsung-made prototype for a smart speaker with a flexible OLED screen. ,
The fuzzy design allows the device to morph between a sleek compact speaker and a more bulky gadget with a screen capable of displaying an array of useful information and offering video playback.
In its more compact form the curved display will still show some information like the time and weather, and the Galaxy Home Mini 2 may also include touch controls.
This isn’t just wild speculation – SamMobile’s report on the Galaxy Home Mini 2 rumors also mentioned that the speaker is believed to come with a display of some sort.
We’ll have to wait a while before we know what – if anything – Samsung has in store for us, but we’re excited to see if its third attempt at a smart speaker is more successful than the first.
