The full-length animated Super Mario Bros. movie release date is still far away — now set for December 21, 2022 in North America, with the film expected to premiere during “Holiday 2021” in other regions.
But Nintendo at its most recent Nintendo Direct event announced the main cast, which includes familiar actors who will lend their voices to the characters living in the iconic Mushroom Kingdom.
Guardians of the Galaxy star-Lord Chris Pratt will voice star-powered-up Loving Mario, The Queen’s Gambit actress Anya Taylor-Joy will voice Princess Peach and ‘Wildcard’ It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Charlie Day is everyone’s favorite green. -Shirt will be the sidekick, Luigi.
Jack Black, no stranger to voicing his Kung Fu Panda animated films, will give us some gruesome Bowser dialogue, Keegan-Michael Key of Key & Peele will voice Todd, and Seth Rogan will monkey with Donkey Kong lines.
Kevin Michael Richardson, who recently reprized his role as Mortal Kombat’s Goro, will apply some magic as Kamek, and Fred Armisen of SNL and Portlandia will always enlighten us as the old weirdo cranky Kong.
Don’t worry, legendary Mario voice actor Charles Martinet is going to be a part of this movie, as Nintendo has assured fans that he has been chosen to voice several cameos.
However, there’s no Super Mario Bros. 2022 trailer ready to show right now, and Nintendo says it’s going to take some time before we get our first glimpse of the animated reboot of the 1993 poorly reviewed adventure comedy film cult classic.
