Please take a banana and join me as I share the story behind Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, the latest title in the series, today on PS4 and PS5.

a new beautiful monkey world

What led to the creation of this title? When we released the last Super Monkey Ball game, we received a ton of requests from fans around the world wishing to remake the original Super Monkey Ball and Super Monkey Ball 2. The project began as a direct response to those fan voices.

Starting with basic stage data from a game that is now 20 years old (Happy Anniversary AIAI!), our first step was making the world of the Monkey Gang more colorful and vibrant, by increasing the texture resolution and detailing the environment and decorations. was doing a remake. We have also completely remade the UI to give a modern look to the new game. Plus: adding more bananas so rolling through the steps feels even better.

Another important focus was play tempo. We’ve shortened the time between “Fall Out” and “Retry” as much as possible so you can return to play without loading time.

Stage adjustment won’t ruin your memories

In terms of the difficulty of the platform, we made sure to keep it as close to the original as possible in order to honor the memories of fans of the original games. However, there were some stages in the original that were so difficult you wanted to see the sky blank. I’m sure there are some of you out there who know what I’m talking about…

For example, “EXAM-C” from the original Super Monkey Ball. This stage has a beautiful night landscape but the stage was so difficult that you didn’t have time to enjoy the view. There were heights and incredibly narrow, winding paths that required your full attention at all times. We made some minor changes to the stage, increased the completion time and widened the winding path in the second half of the stage so you can play a little more comfortably. I am sure that now you can enjoy at least some degree of beautiful view while playing!

Another classic stage is “Arthropod” from Super Monkey Ball 2. This stage involves navigating a large arthropod in circles (naturally).

The stage basically had gaps which made it extremely difficult. I can’t remember how many times I fell on this platform because I got stuck on the gap and then got kicked by arthropods…

So, we got rid of the difference. The stage is still quite challenging but escaping the legs of arthropods is now at least a little easier!

Apart from some minor stage adjustments we have also added new support features like “Helper Function” which make the game more accessible. With a little help, I was able to beat the game too! *Laugh at*

Of course those features are completely optional, and for those who want to play the original difficulty, there’s a mode that lets you do that too… so no worries.

Not just a remake of the main game

Apart from the main game, we also made sure to remake all 12 party games from Super Monkey Ball Deluxe. They’re 1-4 multiplayer so you can play with friends and family, and some party games have network rankings so you can compete for the best score in the world.

We’ve also added a ton of new features like Golden Banana Mode where you try to collect all the bananas within a given time, Dark Banana Mode where you try to reach the target without touching any rotten Bananas , and reverse mode that swaps the start and target for a different type of Super Monkey Ball challenge. You can also customize AIAI and gang outfits and monkey balls from over 100 different items.

Plus, there’s a new photo mode in the main game that lets you take pictures of your favorite SMB fashion moments for each character!

On top of the all-new mode, there are over 700 missions you can complete and tons of new playable characters: Sonic & Tails, Kazuma Kiryu, and the Beat from Jet Set Radio are all joining the gang on their adventure. !

Add all this up and Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is much more than a remake of the original game – we tried to make it as fun as possible with all the various new features!

In the end, we are 20. wanted to cementth Anniversary with a special limited-edition physical release that celebrates this important milestone! The Anniversary Edition comes with a 40-page art book featuring art from each game in the series straight from the Sega archives. It also includes a collectible sleeve, reversible cover, and 10 exclusive cosmetic items. It was our way of celebrating one of the most beloved series in Sega history with Banana Maniacs.

There’s more I want to talk about but AIAI is calling me back to Jungle Island – my deepest gratitude to everyone who supported Super Monkey Ball over the past 20 years! If we have a chance, let’s play party games together!

until we meet again, go bananas!
