The games span multiple genres, including new and classic IP and shooters, strategy games and RPGs.
Koch Media was at E3 this week to announce its new gaming label Prime Matter, which will produce 12 upcoming games from a range of genres including shooters, strategy games and RPGs, along with new and classic IP.
Like many other titles announced at E3, many of these games won’t launch until 2022, but here’s a glimpse at what the new game publisher has in store for consoles and PC.
Command and Conquer fans should keep an eye on Crossfire Legion from developer Blackbird Media. Unlike its first-person shooter predecessor, Crossfire, Crossfire Legion is a full-blown real-time strategy (RTS) title. Blackbird has experience with RTS games, having released Homeworld: Deserts of Karak and Hardspace: Shipbreaker. It is slated for a 2022 release.
Developer Brass Token explores a deeper aspect of existence with The Chant. Like Alan Wake, The Chant tasks you with battling extra-dimensional, psychedelic monsters in a remote part of America. But are they real? The protagonist deals with severe trauma, so it is unclear whether the elderly horrors are real or a figment of the imagination. Instead of guns or knives, you fight enemies with secret items that enable melee or ranged attacks. Chant comes to PC and consoles in Q2 2022.
Brazil-based Massive Work Entertainment Soulsborn brings something new to the genre: an outer space setting. Inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft and H.R. Giger, the volatile environment of the dolmen evokes a sense of fear and loneliness. As the genre is characterized, you will die several times during your journey. Dolmen will haunt PC and consoles in 2022.
echo of the end
Echoes of the End (a working title) is an Action-RPG developed by Mykur Games, an Icelandic studio. The team plans to deliver a vast fantasy world inspired by their homeland. Mykur Games hasn’t released narrative or gameplay details, but the developer revealed that the protagonist, Rin, has the ability to create and destroy matter. In addition to fighting vicious enemies, you’ll also face challenging puzzles and form alliances with various NPCs. Interestingly, the game may offer a co-op or PvP mode, as its multiplayer mode is currently “TBD”. Echoes of the End currently lacks a release window.
Set in an alternate 1976, Encased lets you play as one of five different factions living in a futuristic dome overseen by the Cronus organization. Factions such as the militant Black Wing or the science-minded White Wing have different skills and offer diverse play styles. Like the RPG classics that inspired it, such as Baldur’s Gate and Divinity, Encased offers several ways to achieve goals. The Dark Crystal Games-developed title hits PC this September.
Developed by Recon Games, Final Form (also a working title) is a highly stylized FPS that emphasizes fluid traversal and Twitch-based shooting skills. The science-fiction-focused campaign sees you play as a robot tasked with transporting the remains of humanity to a new planet in a distant star system. Hostile aliens seeking cosmic domination will try to stop your mission at every turn, but two other players can join the action to help. The final form is sent to the PC at an unknown time.
King’s Bounty 2
The classic King’s Bounty series returns after a hiatus of 30 years. King’s Bounty 2 is a high-budget, AAA experience built for modern consoles and PC. Like the original game, King’s Bounty 2 features turn-based combat involving living (and dead) soldiers and large armies of creatures. New additions include 3D battlefields that you can take advantage of to gain tactical advantage. In terms of narrative, expect a politically focused story to be influenced by your gameplay decisions. King’s Bounty 2 drops for PC and consoles on August 24th.
In 2022, the studio will distribute the first Gungrave game in Iggymob years. Gungrave GORE is an action game that lets you play an anti-hero who uses a variety of weapons to rain death on his enemies. Story details are light at the moment, but the developer said it includes themes focused on vengeance, love and loyalty. Blastathon is heading to PC and consoles.
The Last Oricru
Science-fiction and fantasy merge in The Last Orikru, developed by the Gold Knights. In this third-person action-RPG, you play as a human who wakes up in a strange, medieval world in a distant galaxy. Your goal is to find out how you got to the planet while avoiding death from various, warring factions. Gold Knights promises tough, unforgiving, skill-based combat. Your decisions also play a role in the gameplay, as they affect the narrative in minor and major ways. The Last Oriku heads to PC and consoles in 2022.
The only thing we know about the new painkiller is that it is in the early stages of development. Seeing as how Painkiller is a highly regarded (but often overlooked) pioneer of modern-day FPS, it suffices to know that we’ve got a new installment coming. Hopefully, it won’t be long until we get an update.
pay day 3
Coming out in 2023, Payday 3 is arguably Prime Matter’s most anticipated game. Like the previous installments, Payday 3 involves carrying out a daring bank robbery inspired by classic heist movies. It continues the ongoing narrative of the series, but with unexpected twists and turns.
If you enjoyed the science-fiction and Lovecraftian landscapes of Return, you’ll find a lot to like in Scars Above. The Mad Head studio project stars a lone scientist trapped in a hostile extraterrestrial world. To survive, he must scour land, and craft tools and weapons. With these, she’ll solve intricate puzzles and fight demonic creatures. Scars Above will release on PC and consoles in 2022.
