The product will launch on June 10, but according to Best Buy customer service representatives, unlike the RTX 3080 Ti launch, it won’t be sold in stores.
Don’t go camping at your local Best Buy for Nvidia’s RTX 3070 Ti. The retailer will only sell the graphics card online this time.
On Wednesday, a Best Buy customer service representative told PCMag that the RTX 3070 Ti will not be offered in stores, citing an internal message sent by the company. An employee at a Best Buy store in San Francisco also told us that the RTX 3070 Ti will only be available through BestBuy.com. The company’s listing for the Founders Edition card also says “online only.”

Hence, the upcoming launch of the RTX 3080 Ti should not be a repeat of the event. Last week, Best Buy decided to exclusively sell Founders Edition cards in stores, eliminating the practice of selling cards online only.
The event generated massive lines at Best Buy outlets across the country after the GPU had been out of stock for months. However, many of the same stores only received 64 units or less, leaving hundreds of customers disappointed.

It’s not clear why Best Buy is sidestepping in-person sales. We have sent several emails and made telephone calls to Best Buy’s public relations team, but have not yet received a response.
On the one hand, in-store sales for the RTX 3080 Ti gave consumers a chance to avoid having to contend with scalper-run bots for the GPU. But on the downside, camping out all night at Best Buy for a GPU is no fun.
We saw it last week at a West Los Angeles Best Buy store. “As you can see, there’s not a lot of social distancing going on in the line,” said a consumer named Joseph, who camped out all night for the RTX 3080 Ti. “There are no trash cans.”
If you’re planning on buying the RTX 3070 Ti tomorrow, we expect Best Buy’s website to start selling the card sometime after 9 a.m. EST. But be ready to sell with user traffic from other buyers.
