Mandalorian season 3 may not start filming for a while

Don’t Expect Mando and Baby Yoga

Looking forward to the return of Grogu in The Mandalorian Season 3? The latest news makes us think that we might have to wait a bit, so I hope you’ve packed breakfast (kids, don’t steal from others). Rumor has it that Deen Zarine and Baby Yoda’s next round in the skies isn’t going to be filmed any time soon, and suggests a long wait until that next chapter.

This news comes to us from Collider, which is quite reputable on things like this, and is attributed to unknown sources. Specifically: The Book of Boba Fett is going to be a “closely linked spinoff, and we’re basically expecting it as ‘The Mandalorian Season 2.5,'” because it will pack the other characters we’ve seen. Seen in The Mandalorian. It sounds great, if you ask us, but it won’t feel tightly knit if there’s no grogu (we’re assuming they’re saving it for the Mando S3).

It is also linked to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming to Disney Plus. It looks like Disney may stagger filming of all three shows, with The Book of Boba Fett wrapping up, and the Obi-Wan series already filming on the LA stages.

And while we don’t know when Obi-Wan is ready to wrap up, it looks like The Mandalorian will film next. Collider’s big claim is that production for the third Mando season won’t begin until late 2021 or early 2022. It points to a late 2022 release for The Mandalorian Season 3.

The delay of Mando Season 3 is also tied to The Last of Us HBO show, which will star Pedro Pascal. According to a casting call in Alberta, Canada, the show is airing starting July 2021 (until June 2022!). One wonders how much Pascal would set for that year.

Pascal recently told Ewan McGrego (Obi-Wan himself) That The Mandalorian’s third season hasn’t been shot yet, so it’s more fuel to believe the report.

All of the above note about The Mandalorian Season 2.5 makes more sense, as that show will need us to tide over the whole lot as we wait for the return of the Besker-collected Din Zarinen.

Boba Fett’s book will star Temuera Morrison (as Boba Fett) and Ming-Na Wen (as Fennec Shand), and is due out December 2021. The Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series brings back Ewan McGregor to play the titular character, and takes 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, and has no release date. Filming began on April 2021, and looks like we’ll get a spring/summer 2022 release.
