Pixar’s Latest Discovery Turning a 13-Year-Old Red
Pixar’s upcoming film Turning Red poses an interesting question: What if the anxiety was insanely insane, but still shocking? Yes, we’ve seen Bruce Banner turn into the big, green Hulk, but it’s time to meet 13-year-old Mei Lee, who turns red when she’s excited. And, no, we’re not talking about blushing.
Mei, as you’ll see in the Turning Red trailer below, turns into a giant red panda. Her transformation also comes with its pink smoke. Turning Red not only looks like fun, but it also looks to be Pixar’s return to normalcy, as reports have indicated that it will have a full theatrical release when it bows out next year.

Here’s everything to know about Disney and Pixar’s Turning Red:

Mei is a very normal 13-year-old at the beginning of the Turning Red trailer, but then her mother shows up. And as every student will tell you, that’s the last thing you want to do in school. Mei’s mom starts hitting a school security guard, which makes Mei a little nervous, and then things get larger than life. A giant plume of pink smoke later, we see the other side of Mei: a giant red panda.
Pixar trailers haven’t piqued our interest for quite some time, but Turning Red has us ready to watch this movie as soon as possible.
turning red release date
Turning Red is expected to hit the theaters on March 11, 2022. And it looks like the film may hit the theaters only when it comes out. Previous reporting from Insider revealed that Pixar plans for Turning Red to be its first “normal” theatrical release, leading it to assume Disney Plus may not be part of the plans.
Recent reports of Black Widow’s financial success on Disney Plus Premiere Access have led some to think Disney will release movies in theaters and with its own premium Video On Demand service, but there’s no sign of that happening. Of course, this can change at any time.
Turning Red Cast and Crew
Although most of the cast hasn’t been revealed, the official synopsis from the trailer details gives us a great deal of reason to be excited. Sandra Oh (Killing Eve, Raya and the Last Dragon) is voicing Mei’s mother, Ming Lee, who is a little more protective.
Mei is voiced by relative newcomer Rosalie Chiang, whose IMDb page lists three appearances: Dirty and the Intern (a pair of shorts from 2018) and two episodes of the show Click Wars from 2017.
And we can’t forget to mention Turning Raid director Domi Shea. Xi directed Bao, a 2018 Pixar short film about a woman who cooks Baozi, only to see one come to life. She was the first woman to direct a Pixar short, and Turning Red is her directorial debut.
