with a bang.
And, of course, the memes were almost as good as they looked like themselves. Here are some of our favorites…
Kim Kardashian and Kanye as Dementors?
There’s fashion, and then uh, what Kim Kardashian and her estranged husband, Kanye West wore Monday night. The two covered themselves in black, with Kardashian wearing a Balenciaga bodysuit and West in a black sweatsuit. The two have been compared to everything from the hideous Dementor prison guards of Harry Potter fame to the Queen of Aliens to Darth Vader himself.
One person reported that the costumes were so hidden that anyone could be there.
“I bet it’s not Kim Kardashian either,” the tweet read. “Kim is eating pizza at home in her pajamas.”
What did Nicki Minaj’s cousin’s friend do?
Singer Nicki Minaj was not at the Met Gala, but she tweeted about the event’s need for attendees to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.
“They want you to get vaccinated for the season,” she said, “if I get vaccinated it won’t be for the season. That’s when I think I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that right now.” In the meantime, my dear, stay safe. Wear a 2-string mask that holds your head and face. Not too loose.”
Minaj later tweeted that she would get the vaccine, writing, “A lot of countries won’t let ppl work with vaccines. I would recommend that they get the vaccine. They have to feed their families. I’m sure I will.” I will also get vaccinated because I have to go on tour, etc.”
But it was another tweet from Minaj that really set Twitter on fire. “My cousin in Trinidad didn’t get the vaccine because his friend got it and became impotent,” Minaj said. “Her testicles were swollen. It was a few weeks since her friend got married, now the girl has annulled the marriage.”
Fans were quick to point out to Minaj that the vaccine doesn’t cause impotence (though coronavirus is happening can), but they also couldn’t resist the jokes.
One person said, “Your cousin’s friend just picked up an STD, but please keep going.”
