Smart home appliances have a tendency to limit solutions to non-existent problems, and no place is more evident than the CES show floor. This year is no different. Case in point: a smart toilet paper holder from a company called Homeplanish that monitors your usage and then automatically orders more from your Amazon account when you’re about to run out.

Homeplanish says its tool will keep people from rolling billboards because its algorithm can automatically predict when you’ll need more and pre-order it on your behalf, unlike some options that offer a set amount. Tend to buy replacements on time. Since the Smart Holder integrates with Amazon’s “Smart Reorder” platform, it also takes into account delivery times and calculates the ideal reorder time frame to ensure there’s never too much or too much on hand. Don’t have too few towels and tissues.”

“If you’re storing more product than you can use or expiring too soon, convenience is lost,” said Kristen Wood, Homeplanish’s direction of innovation. “Homeplanish solves this problem by removing the guesswork when you need more.”

Homeplenish offers its technology in two forms: a smart tower holder for your kitchen and a tissue spindle for your bathroom. They look like any other traditional holder, but come equipped with an array of sensors to track your usage. You also don’t have to rely solely on Homeplanish’s estimates. With the companion app, you have the option to manage your household towels and tissue supplies and change the order cycle to your liking.

Homeplanish’s product makes eliminating a tiny bit of your life’s chores work, but is it something you want to automate? Not only is it collecting sensitive data on your bathroom visits, but having access to your Amazon account can lead to some bizarre purchases, as we’ve seen in the past. But if you often find yourself running out of toilet paper and heading to the supermarket for emergency supplies, it might be worth a shot.
