The name is Holland… Tom Holland? The Spider-Man actor told Total Film that it was his James Bond pitch for Sony that helped the latter become an uncharted film.
Uncharted, which stars Holland as a younger version of Indiana Jones-esque video game icon Nathan Drake, was not on the actor’s mind when he walked into Sony’s offices with his Big Idea.
“I had a meeting after or during Spider-Man 2″ [Far From Home], to present this idea of a young Bond film with Sony, which I will come up with,” Holland told Total Film in its new issue. Available to buy now,
Holland said, “It was a James Bond origin story. It didn’t really make sense. It didn’t work out. It was a young child’s dream, and I don’t think the Bond estate was particularly interested.”
Still, there was something there: “The idea of a young Bond movie led to the idea, in turn, that you could do a Nathan Drake story as an origin story and not in addition to the games. And it sparked a conversation. started,” Holland recalled.
Holland may have swapped potential martinis and a license to kill for trap and treasure — but Uncharted is much more than a good fit for an action hero.
Uncharted, which also stars Mark Wahlberg, Sofia Taylor Ali and Antonio Banderas, is set to hit theaters on February 11 in the UK and February 18 in the US.
